Award-winning Producer/Writer/Director Rick Mowat is a creative force whose eclectic talent and experience in writing, directing, and performing has resulted in his award-winning first feature film, A Cat’s Tale which won Best Director and Best Ensemble cast along with many prize-winning short films including Hunter is F*cked (Best Dark Comedy and Best Acting Awards), The Meet, Marty Learns To Drive, Hanging Plant and Manhattan’s Best Friend

Mowat is the only person on the planet who’s acted in 3 Woody Allen Films (Sweet & Low Down, Celebrity, The Town I Love); worked as an improvisational writer-performer in a theatrical comedy that won the #1 Critics Pick by Time Out New York Magazine, and performed as the Principal Trombone in several orchestras. He thrives on conveying mood and ambience on screen in all formats, whether through scripted or unscripted work, or for commercials for clients such as Frye Boots, Nikon, Kenneth Cole, Bovis Lend Lease, Black Rock, Accounting firm SaxBST, along with non-profits like Smile Train and others. Cultivating his artistic skills as a writer/director Mowat fuses his love for darkly comedic storytelling with his passion for music and theater, creating a strong visionary voice in filmmaking.

His award-winning short films have won Best Dark Comedy and Best Acting awards, have played at the Woodstock Film Festival, Austin Comedy Film Festival, London Rocks, The Brussels International Film Festival, Portland Comedy Festival, New York International Shorts Festival, Lake Placid Film Festival, Eugene International Film Festival, Raindance NY Shorts Festival and PBS’ Reel Thirteen. Mowat has directed theatrical stage productions of Can’t Cut My Head Off and the sci-fi rock musical, The Last American, and numerous stage productions for the Dramatic Question Theater Company, the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre and The Soho Playhouse in New York City.
